Lahore, September 4, 2024 — Falbous Christopher, a member of the Provincial Assembly of Punjab, has been unanimously elected as the Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Human Rights and Minorities Affairs in a meeting held on September 2, 2024. Christopher was nominated for the position by Emmanuel Ather Julius, another member of the Provincial Assembly, with Mian Muhammad Shoaib Awaisi supporting the nomination. The committee members, representing both Christian and Muslim communities as well as opposition parties, voted unanimously in favour of Christopher, marking a significant show of unity across party lines.
After his election, Ch. Amer Habib, Secretary General of the Punjab Assembly, issued the official notification confirming Christopher’s appointment. Various political and religious figures, including Emmanuel Ather Julius and pastors from different Christian denominations, offered their congratulations. Among those who congratulated Christopher were Pastor Shahzad Siddique, Pastor Shakeel Siddique, and Pastor Anwar Fazal, Chairman of Isaac TV and Eternal Life Church, who also prayed for his success in representing the minorities of Punjab.
Christopher, a bold Christian politician, has been a consistent advocate for minority rights in the Punjab Assembly. He has frequently raised critical issues faced by minority communities, most recently calling for reforms in the electoral system for minority members in national and provincial assemblies. Christopher voiced the need for an election-based system instead of the current selection process for minority representatives.
The entire team of Pak Christian News (PCN) joins the community in congratulating Falbous Christopher MPA on his new role. His leadership promises to bring continued advocacy for the rights and welfare of minorities in Punjab.
