Mian Channu, August 29, 2024 — A young
Christian mother, Samira Gulfam, tragically lost her life due to alleged
negligence by medical staff during a delivery operation at Al-Shifa Welfare
Surgical Hospital in Kacha Khoh, Mian Channu. Samira, who had been married for
four years and was already the mother of a two-year-old son, was brought to the
hospital on the night of August 29 for the birth of her second child.
According to Samira’s family, after the operation, a baby girl was
safely delivered, and the doctors assured them that Samira was fine but
unconscious. The family was told that she would regain consciousness shortly.
However, after a prolonged wait with no communication from the medical staff,
Samira's mother grew increasingly concerned. When she inquired about her
daughter's condition, the doctors advised her not to disturb Samira, stating
that she was still unconscious.
Tragically, a short time later, medical staff realized that Samira had
passed away. The family, who work as laborers at a brick kiln, had paid the
hospital 9,000 rupees for the operation, but their joy turned to sorrow as they
lost their loved one due to what they believe was gross medical negligence.
The family reported that the hospital staff fled the scene after
Samira's death, and despite repeated calls to the police, no action was taken.
Feeling powerless and unable to afford legal action, the grieving family has
pleaded for justice and demanded strict action against the hospital staff
responsible for the tragedy.
This incident has raised serious concerns about medical negligence and
the treatment of vulnerable communities in Pakistan. The family, devastated by
the loss, hopes that the authorities will take immediate steps to hold those
responsible accountable and prevent such tragedies from happening in the
future.
