False Accusation of Desecrating the Holy Quran Leads to Arrest in Gujranwala

Gujranwala, April 11, 2024 — In a swift action, Gujranwala Police have arrested Christian man Paras Saleem for falsely accusing his father-in-law, Pastor Asif Nadeem, of desecrating the Holy Quran.

Paras confessed to the police that his allegations were motivated by personal resentment and that he had attempted to spread the claim using a fake TikTok account. The suspect's confession video reveals that his actions were spurred by anger towards his father-in-law, following his wife's decision not to return to him after visiting her parental home.

Rana Ayaz Saleem, City Police Officer (CPO) of Gujranwala briefed the District Peace Committee and respected local religious scholars about the facts of the case. Subsequently, the scholars confirmed in a video message that the incident was a false accusation and that no desecration of the Holy Quran or religious disrespect had occurred.

The scholars emphasized that Gujranwala is a peaceful city, where minorities are completely safe, and that spreading false accusations or rumors to disrupt the city's harmony will not be tolerated.

The community leaders expressed their gratitude towards the Gujranwala Police for their prompt action not only in arresting the accused but also in recovering the mobile phone used to create the fake video.

The police and local scholars have appealed to the citizens not to heed rumors and assured the Christian community that they should not feel distressed and should continue their daily routines without fear.
