Historic Move: Punjab's First Female CM Initiates Easter Preparations


Lahore, February 28, 2024 – Maryam Nawaz, the Chief Minister of Punjab, has issued directives to the Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) to commence preparations for Easter celebrations, highlighting the significance of the festival for the Christian community in the province. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of inclusivity and equal participation in the festivities, urging that the Christian-majority areas be appropriately decorated to reflect the joyous spirit of Easter.

In a recent meeting, Maryam Nawaz also proposed the organization of a flower festival in Lahore, showcasing the city's floral beauty and diversity. The meeting further reviewed plans for a Ramadan Festival, aiming to celebrate the cultural richness of the region. Senior officials, including the Director-General of PHA, provided detailed briefings on the proposed events, ensuring comprehensive and vibrant celebrations.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures such as Former Senator Pervez Rashid, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Bilal Kiayani, Uzma Bukhari, Sania Ashiq, and key administrative officials like the Chief Secretary, Secretary Local Government, Commissioner Lahore, and Deputy Commissioner.

Maryam Nawaz's recent ascent to the role of Chief Minister marks a historic milestone, as she becomes the first woman to lead the province of Punjab. Garnering 220 votes, she triumphed in the chief ministerial elections, defeating Rana Aftab of the PTI-backed SIC (Sunni Ittehad Council). This victory is celebrated as an honor for women across Pakistan and signifies a progressive shift in the nation's political landscape.

Addressing issues of societal concern, the Chief Minister underscored her government's firm stance against violence, particularly targeting women, children, and minorities, and instances of rape.
