Lahore, September 22, 2023 - In a significant development, Inspector General Police (IG) Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, has underscored the collaborative efforts between Punjab police and prominent Christian community leaders in promoting interfaith harmony and countering malicious activities through mutual cooperation. This partnership aims to eradicate negative propaganda and enhance security across the province.
Dr. Anwar acknowledged that differences in opinions and beliefs are a fundamental aspect of human and social life. He emphasized that building trust among different communities is vital to ensure peace and security. However, he vehemently condemned the manipulation of religious sentiments for personal gain or revenge, asserting that such actions are not only inappropriate but also constitute punishable crimes.
The meeting, which took place in the wake of the recent Jaranwala incident, addressed the need for collaboration between law enforcement agencies and religious leaders to maintain social harmony and ensure the safety of all citizens. Dr. Anwar mentioned the establishment of Meesaq Centers as part of these efforts to promote interfaith understanding and cooperation.
Senior police officers, including Additional IG Operations Shahzada Sultan, DIG Operations Waqas Nazir, DIG Security Kamran Adil, AIG Operations Dr. Asad Ejaz Malhi, DPO Sahiwal Faisal Shehzad, and DPO Sargodha Faisal Kamran, were also present at the meeting. They echoed the importance of fostering strong relationships between different communities and pledged to work together to maintain law and order, safeguard minority rights, and uphold the principles of justice and equality.
