The role of police and judiciary is biased in cases of forced conversion, report finds

The role of police and judiciary in cases of forced conversions is biased, a report released by the National Commission on the Rights of the Child had found.

According to the report, the police deliberately do not investigate cases of forced conversions.

It says the main reason is prejudice, intolerance and extremism against the minorities minorities in Pakistan.

The report sets out that the police have obstructed the registration of FIRs and not recorded the statements of the complainants. Sometimes they do not register an FIR in an attempt to suppress the case when influential individuals are involved, the report said.

Families are often pressured to make statements in favour of the abductors, and if such cases get to court mobs are also present to apply pressure on the courts, the report found.

According to the report, as well as societal prejudices, there are people in the judiciary who have prejudices against minorities.
